Casa Max is our most personal project, as it is our home. It serves as a residence, a studio, and a laboratory where we have experimented with materials and techniques.
We stumbled upon the empty lot by sheer luck one day when we were looking for a house in this neighborhood to remodel. Once we negotiated the purchase, the design session began! The day after the escrow closed, we submitted our completed plans for building permits. After a few months of review, we began to build. And, for exactly a year, we designed and built our dream home.
Interesting fact: The polycarbonate sheet we used for the stair core acts as a beautiful neighborhood lantern and is more energy efficient than dual-pane glass!
