The raw beauty of its rural site in Valley Center inspired Rancho McMillen. Perched on a hill overlooking the Castle Creek Country Club, the main residence and barn are sited to capture views across the valley, collect cooling breezes from the distant pacific ocean and allow for the nightly evening sunset show. To protect from heat of the sun during the hot summer months, large overhangs were created to shade the windows and doors.
The exterior materials were selected for their fire-resistive qualities and ability to survive the rugged environment. By contrast, the interiors include warming wood finishes as well as delightful owner-selected tile and painted finishes. The natural and synthetic materials combine for a modern approach to the rural buildings of this agricultural community.
