Rancho McMillen was inspired by the raw beauty of the surrounding area.

Perched on a hill overlooking the Castle Creek Country Club, the main residence and barn are sited to capture views across the valley, collect cooling breezes from the distant pacific ocean and allow for the nightly evening sunset show. To protect from heat of the sun during the hot summer months, large overhangs were created to shade the windows and doors. The exterior materials were selected because of their fire-resistive qualities and their ability to survive the more rugged environment.

Natural and synthetic materials combine for a modern approach to the rural buildings of this agricultural community.
