In 2005, we were asked by a friend and neighbor to conceive of single-family residences for two steep and difficult sites that he owned. The interesting part was that they lived next door in a Homer Delawie designed Mid-Century modern home, so we knew they had an appreciation for modern architecture.
We envisioned multi-level plans that terraced up the slope, carving out building mass to create outdoor living spaces and providing light wells that gave the impression you weren’t below ground - all in the spirit of the Mid-Century optimism.
Through several financial partner changes, the project was realized and completed in 2008.
