Are you yearning to build a home on the rural outskirts of San Diego?

Here’s a short summary to see if you’re ready to leave the city behind.

READY FOR CHANGE?

Sick of living on a postage stamp lot? Tired of living in a tract home where every single house is stacked side-by-side and looks exactly like yours? You're not alone. We've found a trend of people like you saying that enough is enough. You want to raise your kids so they can explore the great outdoors. You want peace and quiet and space to breathe. With everyone working from home, it's no longer inconvenient to live out in the countryside. It's liberating!

INCORPORATED OR UNINCORPORATED AREA?

So, what's the difference between building a home in urban/suburban areas vs. rural areas? In incorporated cities such as San Diego, properties have access to municipal services such as utilities, police, and fire. In unincorporated areas, you may find that you can buy acres of gorgeous rural land for a bargain.

THE CHALLENGES

You need to remember that improvements may be necessary to develop your land. You may need to add your septic system, a well for water, and maybe even power. You might be required to create an access road that a fire truck can use to reach your home. Perhaps the terrain is rugged. And just like the city, the County has its Zoning requirements that define what and where you can build. You need an understanding of these requirements to factor them into your overall budget and schedule.

THE BENEFITS

However, you gain gorgeous sunrises, sunsets, and a night sky full of stars. Perhaps you can grow your own vineyard and stomp your grapes for your private-label wine. You can develop fields of flowers or vegetable crops. You can gaze at a landscape overlooking the ocean or even the Salton Sea. These descriptions are for homes our clients have chosen to build on properties with mountains, boulders, and endless views. The value of fresh air and space is worth the effort for them.

THE CUSTOMIZATION

Our clients have also chosen to live in non-traditional homes. They prefer floor-to-ceiling glass to open to nature and focus on indoor-outdoor living. They want the reassurance of concrete, steel, and fire-resistive construction to keep them safe. Some prefer sustainable homes that blend with the landscape. Others want to make a statement with eye-catching retreats to get that getaway feeling. Living in the countryside gives them the space to express how they want to live.
